A New Approach to FND.

You've tried it all, but Functional Neurological Disorder remains. Let us show you how ReACT is a (very) different treatment for FND.

ReACT

Retraining and Control Therapy (ReACT)

ReACT is a treatment developed by Dr. Aaron Fobian, Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, that uses research-supported approaches designed to help manage and reduce the symptoms of FND by retraining control over involuntary symptoms. It uses principles of habit reversal and other evidence-based techniques to retrain the involuntary, reflexive functional symptoms, empowering individuals to regain control over their bodies. ReACT utilizes the Precision Treatment Tool, an innovative psychologist-centered digital platform.

Research on ReACT is ongoing, including two NIH-funded studies on ReACT: a mechanistically-focused NIMH-funded study to confirm the treatment targets by which ReACT is effective and a NCCIH-funded multi-site feasibility trial with Yale University and Baylor College of Medicine in preparation for a large efficacy trial.

ReACT FND Health

ReACTFND Health was born from the innovative research at UAB described above. Following the 2020 publication of the first-ever pilot randomized controlled trial in pediatric FND demonstrating that ReACT significantly improves symptoms in adolescents with functional seizures, Dr. Aaron Fobian recognized both the urgent demand from patients seeking FND-informed treatment and the growing interest among providers for specialized training. As access to research-supported FND care remained limited, she began working with UAB’s Harbert Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship to formally launch ReACT FND Health.

Joined by Dr. Areti Vassilopoulos as Chief Operations Officer, the company began accepting patients across the U.S. via telehealth in January 2025. In April 2025, ReACT FND Health certified its first external psychologist in Iceland—marking a major milestone in global provider training. This launch signified the transformation of ReACT from a tested academic intervention into a scalable healthcare company with both national and international impact.

Our mission is clear and driven:

  • To ensure every individual with FND has access to research‑supported treatment
  • To expand access through direct patient care and training new, FND‑informed clinicians

What Patients Are Saying

  • "In fact, in January of 2022, just six weeks after her first ReACT session at UAB, our daughter went back to school full time for the first time in two years. It was amazing! ...through this program we now have the tools to recognize what is going on and work toward eliminating those symptoms as well."

  • "She learned how to recognize when the episodes are coming on and techniques to control them. She is now able to have her independence and take back control of her life episode free."

  • "Within a matter of weeks, our daughter was regaining her life, and within a matter of a few months, was able to do everything she wanted. Although she still has symptoms here or there, even a year and a half after finishing treatment, she is confident in her ability to manage symptoms as they come, is not held back by her diagnosis in anything, and feels so proud of herself for thriving despite the challenges she has had."

  • "I feel independent now that I have control of my symptoms...This treatment has taught me many important lessons, like how to manage my symptoms, how to cope with the pain, and how to stay calm when everything seems out of control."

  • "They slowly started attacking each of his symptoms one at a time. She taught him in a very methodical process how to retrain his brain and he did! Now, two years later he is back to normal; completely 100%."
